The fight against COVID-19 is a silent war unexpectedly waged against every country and nation in the world.

No one can battle this alone. Nobody can be left outside of the circle. Every citizen on earth, do your share.

ABOUT: The COVID-19 is a respiratory borne illness caused by coronavirus which has infected more than thirty-four million and killed more than one million people in the world, as of October 2020. It is not the flu, EBOLA, or ZIKA. While it may have certain similarities with other viruses, its easy transmission, high degree of morbidity, and mortality rate set it apart from the regular flu though there is still a lot that we don’t know about the coronavirus. This virus can be transmitted via the form of an aerosol, giving it the ability to maintain airborne for a long period of time. It can also survive on non living hard objects such as plastic and metal alike. This makes coronavirus’ ability to infect people much higher than other diseases. It can survive on doorknobs, handrails, elevators and public transportations such as busses and subways that hundreds of people touch everyday, and then go on to come in contact with more people and other objects. In short, you don't have to come into direct contact with an infected person to become infected.

HISTORY: In December 2019, the world was pushed into a silent war: the fight against COVID-19. The first appearance of this virus was at an exotic seafood market in Wuhan, China. Healthcare workers reported a new type of respiratory illness and on January 11, 2020, the first death of COVID-19 was reported. On January 23rd, the city of Wuhan was put under quarantine and isolated from the world. Despite China’s quick decision, they still heavily underestimated COVID-19. It easily spread to other Chinese cities like Beijing and Shanghai, crossing over to other regions and countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan, even with heavy travel restrictions in place. On January 30, the WHO (World Health Organization) declared a global health emergency. At this point, countries started to take more extreme methods to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as it traveled to the European countries and across the ocean to the US. On February 14th, France reported their first COVID-19 death. On February 29th, the US recorded their first COVID-19 death. And on March 11th, WHO formally announced COVID-19 a pandemic. As cruise ships were stranded and infection rates surged, COVID-19 conquered more and more of our world. With no sign of slowing down, this worldwide pandemic is threatening the lives and safety of people all across the globe.

Transmission Pathway

COVID-19 is WORSE than the flu.

This is a demonstration of why it's important to self-quarantine. Say we divide everyone into four categories of people: A, B, C, D.

A was originally in contact with people who were infected with COVID-19 (the new Coronavirus). These people aren’t uncommon or hard to find, since cases of the virus are scattered everywhere.

A encountered B while traveling to their destination. A and B never met before. A does not know that B exists, and B does not know that A exists.

When A reaches his destination, he has contact with C. No matter how many Cs he contacted, these Cs can be traced down. Let us assume that these Cs are quarantined.

D is a healthy person who has been staying home without traveling anywhere.

Now the biggest hidden danger is B, who can't be found at all. No one knows who B is, and he doesn't know that he is B at all.

As long as D goes out, there is a possibility of meeting B, and this D will become B2.

Therefore, the purpose of quarantine is to buy time to screen out B. Most people have an incubation period of no more than two weeks. Within two weeks, B will either recover or become sick with noticeable symptoms, and everything will be obvious. The epidemic will not end until all Bs have been identified, quarantined and treated.

Therefore, many measures taken now are to reduce the new generation of B (B2).

GOALS OF COMMUNITY MITIGATION:

  1. Delay outbreak peak

  2. Decompress peak burden on hospitals / infrastructure

  3. Diminish overall cases and health impacts

  4. Decrease fatalities

MISSION STATEMENT: We created this website to share our collected and organized information with family and friends to join the effort of flattening the curve by helping achieve the goals of community mitigation proposed by White House Coronavirus Task Force. The prevention and care methods provided here are not meant to be a replacement for any formal medical therapy. Our goal is to reduce the probability of infection for healthy people, and to treat symptoms when they are mild, with the hope to lessen the chance of requiring hospitalization. â€‹
